2023 Inductee Joyce Taylor

For setting the gold standard of excellence at KING and inspiring us to be authentic, empower others, lead by example, and Stand for Truth. Thank you for your 25+ years of leadership at KING.

Joyce Taylor is an award-winning journalist with nearly four decades of experience as a broadcaster in the Pacific Northwest.

Born and raised in Tacoma, she graduated from Western Washington University in 1984. That summer, Joyce began her career at KREM2 news in Spokane where an internship led to a position as a weekend weathercaster/weekday reporter. Her next stop was WFMY in Greensboro, North Carolina, where she transitioned from weather to the news desk.

In 1987, Joyce received a surprise call from KING 5 News Director Don Varyu, who was looking for a weekend anchor. She joined KING 5 a year later to anchor weekends, and eventually the weekday morning and noon shows.

Joyce later worked at KIRO-TV for nine years before returning to KING 5 in 2002. She is the longest serving morning anchor in northwest television history, having spent more than 25 years on the morning anchor desk. That experience landed her in the KING 5 weeknight anchor chair in 2019.

Throughout her career, Joyce has reported on major events, including the Oklahoma City bombing, death of Princess Diana, Sonics NBA playoff run, Seahawks’ first Superbowl win and 9/11. She has also interviewed Walter Cronkite, Gloria Steinem, President Jimmy Carter and Michael Jordan.

Joyce is proud of her work on KING 5's award-winning 13-part original series, "Facing Race," recognized nationally with a Peabody Award and Scripps Howard Award. She has also been an active member WWU's Alumni Association and Foundation Board, Seattle’s Rainier Scholars, Plymouth Housing, SABJ and NABJ.

Joyce finds inspiration in her neighbors: educators, artists, musicians, students and volunteers making a difference in the world and feels privileged to tell the stories of people who call the Pacific Northwest their home.
