Idaho Regional Chair
Joan Cartan Hansen is the lead producer/host for "D4K," co-producer/host of "Dialogue," and a producer/reporter/writer for "Outdoor Idaho" and "Idaho Reports." In addition, she writes and produces a number of documentaries and occasionally contributes pieces to "The News Hour with Jim Lehrer," Joan has won a number of awards including several regional Emmys, gold medals at the New York Festivals, Tellys, CINE Golden Eagles and Platinum prizes at Worldfest. The National Educational Association and the Council on State Governments have also honored Joan for her educational projects. A native Idahoan, Joan is married with two children.

Montana Regional Chair

Michael Ballard is a Program Producer for KUSM-TV/MontanaPBS in Bozeman, Montana. Since December 2004, Ballard has been part of the production team at KUSM-TV, producing videos for contracted clients, as well as broadcast programs for Montana PBS.

In the television industry since 1994, Ballard is a graduate of Brigham Young University’s Broadcast Television Program. From 1994 – 2004, Ballard was primarily a full-time freelance camera operator, working all across the country for television networks such as ESPN, Turner Sports, CBS and many others.

Bringing this experience to Montana, Ballard now serves as co-director of the award winning Montana PBS music program 11th & Grant with Eric Funk. In 2010 his first documentary, Never Long Gone: The Mission Mountain Wood Band Story, received 7 awards including 2 Emmy’s, a CINE Golden Eagle and the Montana Broadcaster’s Non-Commercial Program of the Year.

Spokane/WA East Regional Chair
Jerry has worked in television news for 10 years, at WXYZ in Detroit, WJRT in Flint, MI, and KXLY in Spokane, where he currently serves as assistant news director. He's also worked as assignment editor, producer, and writer, and has won Emmys for Best Newscast and Best Series, along with other regional awards.
