| 2011 Silver Circle Inductee Dan Lewis |
Dan Lewis is an evening co-anchor at KOMO 4 in Seattle. Shortly after he arrived in 1987 he was teamed up with Kathi Goertzen, a successful combination that has only been interrupted in the last 24 years by Kathi’s absence due to illness.
Dan has covered stories for KOMO from the first 9/11 anniversary in New York to reporting from Japan when Nintendo bought the Seattle Mariners. He also went to Thailand after the 2004 tsunami and was the first reporter to interview Bill Clinton in the White House after his election. Dan is well known in Seattle for his ability to cover major breaking news events live. During his 38-year career Dan has also travelled on news assignments to the Middle East, Paris, Ecuador, The Philippines, Poland, Germany and Africa. Prior to Seattle Dan anchored the news on television stations in Washington, D.C., Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Louisville, Kentucky. His broadcasting career began in radio in the Chicago area after he graduated from the School of Communications at Southern Illinois University. A grandson with severe hemophilia inspired Dan to get involved with the Bleeding Disorder Foundation of Washington. Dan says, "I do as much for this organization as I can." A highlight is the annual Golf Gets in Your Blood fundraiser, for which he procures auction items and emcees the dinner. The event helps cover the cost of summer camp for children with bleeding disorders and also benefits the Puget Sound Blood Center. In addition, Dan volunteers with Camp Korey and regularly serves as an emcee for other organizations including LifeCenter Northwest and Swedish Hospital. |
